La Sportiva Spectre AT Boot Review

posted in: Gear Reviews 433

The La Sportiva Spectre® is the lightest 4-buckle AT boot out there. At around 3lbs 3oz per boot, it’s light on the uphill, and stiff enough for challenging descents; a perfect combination for the Jackson Hole backcountry.

A precise fit can be dialed in with their EZ Thermo Liner, unique and easily adjustable Pegasus Buckles®, canting adjustment, and EZ Fit Toe adjustment for the tongue position. The Pegasus Buckles are light, low-profile, and have a great “fine” adjustment; a knurled screw that has micron-fine adjustment without the need to unbuckle. Overall, it’s a highly adjustable boot that can fit a variety of feet.

A 60° range of motion in walk mode and EZ Flex Tounge make long approaches and tours a pleasure. The boot’s tall cuff and Grilamid®/Pebax® construction is stiff enough to drive skis in a variety of snow conditions. There are 3 different forward lean positions for ski mode as well, 10°, 14°, and 18°. The La Sportiva website suggests a stiffness rating of 110. Some have suggested an even higher rating, but suffice to say, it’s plenty stiff for most of us.

I’ve had my Spectres out for Snow King laps, tours on the Pass and in Grand Teton, and bootpacks up Glory. I’ve found it’s touring comfort and weight to be a major benefit for getting one more lap in, or just keeping my feet happy on the long skin out. If you’re into long days in mountains spent seeking out solitude and remote lines, this boot deserves a look. Or, maybe you just like great, light gear to increase the enjoyment of a quick tour. You too, should check them out.
