Banff Film Festival 2019

Skinny Skis is please to present the Best of the Banff Mountain Film Festival!

This year marks 26 years Skinny Skis has hosted the festival in Jackson Hole!

The films range from unique documentaries to high-action movies… All celebrate the spirit of adventure and the mountain environment.

Each night’s line-up includes approximately 2 hours of film.

 

When: Thursday and Friday, Februaru 7th and 8th 

Time: 7:00 p.m.

Where: J.H. High School Auditorium

Cost: $15/night or $25/both nights… Are students and faculty: $10/night

Tickets available at Skinny Skis, Valley Bookstore, and Hungry Jacks.

Thursday, Feb. 7th

ROGUE ELEMENTS : CORBET ’S COULOIR

(2017, USA, 4 minutes)

Filmmaker: Teton Gravity Research, Todd Jones

Classification: General

Film Synopsis: Anyone who has ever skied or snowboarded Jackson Hole knows just how nerve racking it can be to send it into the infamous Corbet’s Couloir, even in the best of conditions. Doing it in icy conditions on mountain bikes is nothing short of insane, and that’s exactly what we did.

 

FAST HORSE

Film Synopsis: FAST HORSE follows the return of the Blackfoot bareback horseracing tradition in a new form: the Indian Relay. Si ksika horseman Allison Red Crow struggles to build a team with second – hand horses and a new jockey, Cody Big Tobacco , to take on the best ride rs in the Blackfoot Confederacy at the Calgary Stampede.

 

V IACRUXIS

Film Synopsis: Marcel and Andrezj are a legendary pair of mountaineers. They have been the first ones to conquer the highest and hardest peaks. Despite their different temper aments, they make a great team. Now they face the biggest challenge: reaching the virgin summit of the highest mountain. In order to achieve this, they will have to overcome formidable obstacles, suffer hardships and stand each other for a long time. But Andrezj is no longer willing to c ontinue in Marcel’s shadow.

BOY NOMAD

Film Synopsis: 9 – year old Janibek lives with his family in Mongolia’s Altai Mountains. His first love is racing horses, but this winter, his father will bring him on the toughest journey in a nomad’s life: the winter migration.

 

GRIZZLY COUNTRY

Film Synopsis: After serving in the Vietnam War, author and eco – warrior Doug Peacock spent years alone in the Wyoming and Montana wilderness observing grizzly bears. This time in the wild changed the course of his life. With the protec tion of Yellowstone grizzlies now under threat, Peacock reflects on the importance of habitat and why he continues to fight for wild causes.

Film Synopsis: Since a 100 foot fall in 2002 that took his right leg and left him with spinal injuries, Colorado climber Craig DeMartino has led one hell of a life, including lauded First Disabled and In – A – Day Ascents on El Capitan. But his day – to – day life story is the one that should be making headlines.

Film Synopsis: Eleven year old Kai Jones isn’t old enough to go to the movies alone or order a sandwich at the pub, but in the mountains age doesn’t matter. He is following in his family’s ski tracks… right into backflips and tricks off of cliffs .
